Introduction to Miniature Weathering with Enamels & Oils
Bring your miniatures to life with the subtle, powerful techniques that separate a good paint job from a stunning one. This hands-on introduction is designed for painters at every level — no prior experience with enamel paints required.
In this class, you'll learn how weathering products work together to tell a story on every surface. You'll start with an all-over enamel wash applied and then pulled back with mineral spirits using a reductive technique — one of the most forgiving and satisfying methods in the hobby. From there, you'll explore pin washing with enamels and oil paints to define recesses and bring out fine detail with precision.
The course then moves into character: rust effects and general grime that make a model feel like it's actually lived in the world, followed by streaking effects that simulate rain, oil, and age running down surfaces over time.
To close things out, you'll get a look at pigment powders — how to apply them dry for a dusty, matte finish, and how to thin them with mineral spirits to create a paintable wash for even more expressive weathering.
By the end of the session, you'll walk away with a new set of tools, a finished piece you've weathered yourself, and the confidence to push your painting further.
Swag bags will include mineral spirits, a deep well pallet, Qtips, brushes, a pigment, and a pair of gloves!
