Magic Foundations

Magic: The Gathering—Foundations is the ambitious new core set released in late 2024, designed to serve as the approachable, long-term baseline for both new and veteran players. Unlike previous Standard-legal sets, all Foundations cards remain legal in Standard until at least 2029, ensuring a stable and reliable environment for years to come.

• Accessible Entry Point: Foundations is purpose-built for beginners while offering depth for experienced players. Product options include Play Boosters, Collector Boosters, Bundles, Jumpstart Boosters (“Jumpstart 2025”), Prerelease Packs, Starter Collections, and a dedicated Beginner Box with guided deck experiences, making it easy for new players to learn and jump into their first games.
• Classic Mechanics: Instead of introducing new keywords, Foundations spotlights seven classic mechanics drawn from Magic’s history: Flashback, Kicker, Landfall, Morbid, Prowess, Raid, and Threshold. All cards with keywords include reminder text for easy learning.
• Iconic Cards & Worlds: The set is packed with beloved creatures, Planeswalkers, reprints, and all-new cards that showcase Magic’s multiverse, with art and flavor that evoke fan-favorite settings across the game’s history.
• Introductory Strength: Draft and Sealed formats are straightforward and focused on two-color pairs, providing “guard rails” so new drafters won’t get lost building decks, but long-time fans will recognize and enjoy the structure.
• Foundations Jumpstart / Jumpstart 2025: This supplemental product, code J25, releases alongside Foundations and can be used as either a casual standalone way to play or to supplement decks. It features mostly reprints plus some new cards and is perfect for on-the-go play.
• Future Proofing: Foundations is intended for regular reprinting and represents Magic’s core experience for the foreseeable future. Its extended Standard legality means these cards will shape decks and metagames for a minimum of five years, a huge shift designed to offer both stability and access for players.
